About the cottage

Origines.jpg

The Gîte des Païens was born out of our desire to perpetuate the spirit of the house's builders, Hélène and Ernest, who lived there for four decades, surrounded by their three children and five grandchildren.
The house was built in the early 70s, in the old district of Wingen, the Heideneck, "pagan district", so named because of the presence of Germanic tribes during Antiquity. The village was part of the city of Triboques. The menhirs, witnesses of this period, are still visible in the surrounding forests. The most accessible is the Breitenstein which, in the 18th century, was transformed into a cross overlooking the figures of the twelve apostles sculpted on the 4 faces of the stone, hence its name of Stone of the twelve apostles. It is located next to the RD12 which leads from Wingen to Bitche.
Ernest left in 2011, Hélène in 2023, leaving this heritage to our family. The question then was: "What are we going to do with this big house?"
As soon as the roofing and insulation work was completed, the idea of a gîte emerged from the think tank.
At the beginning of 2024, the renovation work on the ground floor which houses the gîte began. Sweat, elbow grease, and time were necessary in order to be able to offer you a pleasant setting and all the essential comfort.
We hope to welcome you soon.

Zohra, Nathalie and Patrick
